Vision 20/20 Project

The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) participates in the national Vision 20/20 Project, a Community Risk Reduction (CRR) initiative providing free tools, training, and research to help fire departments reduce fire-related deaths and injuries. Both the OSFM and Vision 20/20 emphasize using data to identify community risks (like fire incidents, injuries) and creating targeted plans for prevention. The project focuses on five key areas: advocacy, education, culture, technology, and code adoption.

The Vision 20/20 Project helps fire and emergency services reduce risk and improve safety in communities across the U.S. It focuses on Community Risk Reduction (CRR)—using data and proven strategies to prevent fires, injuries, and deaths.

The Statewide Collaboration and Engagement Framework (SCEF) gives states a clear plan to follow. It helps them work with local fire departments to reduce risk and improve safety.
