Fire Extinguishers and Non-Water Based System Licensing

Helpful information

In Maryland, individuals and companies that install or service fire extinguishers and non-water-based suppression systems must be licensed by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). 

Application process

  • Submit a resume of your qualifications.
  • Submit copies of current training certificates.
  • Applicants must indicate if they intend to perform high-pressure testing.
  • New or expired applicants will be required to take an in-person written exam based on NFPA 10 with a passing grade of 70%.

Application processing time

  • Please allow 10 to 30 days for final issuance.
